How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Larger

How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Larger

A small bathroom makes nobody happy. Being cramped in a space that is supposed to be peaceful and relaxing can be a truly unpleasant experience. Luckily, every problem has a solution! Check out these tips to make your smal bathroom feel larger.

1. Have Ample Lighting

A dark bathroom feels like a small bathroom regardless of it’s actual size. Neglecting lighting is one of the most common mistakes made during bathroom remodels. That is why it is important to make sure that you bathroom has ample lighting. There are two kinds of lighting to focus on: Natural lighting and artificial lighting.

Natural lighting will generally come from windows or other openings to the outside of the home. Having light that matches the brightness of the outdoors makes the room feel spacious… Just like the outdoors! However, some bathrooms simply don’t have windows, so how are you supposed to fix the lighting problem?

This is where artificial lighting comes in. Artificial lighting comes from electric fixtures such as lamps, sconces, ceiling lights, etc. While it is important to make sure that the room feels well lit, it is equally important to light the room with the right kind of light. A small bathroom with a can still feel small with an older yellow incandescent bulb. Consider using newer bulbs that give off white light such as LEDs or halogen bulbs.

2. Use Mirrors

Mirrors give the illusion of space in an otherwise cramped area. Think of them as a wall fixture that is pretending to be a window. Being able to look forward at a flat surface and see far into it (even if it is your reflection) can make a space feel much larger than it is. Additionally, mirrors will reflect the light in the room, increasing the light levels and as such, increasing how large your bathroom feels.

When selecting a mirror to make the space look bigger, focus on size and verticality. A large mirror will reflect more light, and a tall mirror will make the ceilings feel higher.

3. White is Your Best Friend

White is a color that will naturally fade into the background. Features like a white vanity, toilet, tile and wall paint will naturally brighten up the space to make it feel larger, and more inviting. That is not to say that you need to use the bathroom in a white void. Just the opposite actually. White comes in all sorts of shades and textures, so there are limitless possibilities when it comes to styling with white.

4. Consider A Pedestal Sink

If this is your primary bathroom, then a pedestal sink may not be right for you. However, in places like hall bathrooms, where not as much storage is needed, a pedestal sink can really open up the space. Take the picture above for example. A vanity would go from wall to wall and fill the entire space. However, with a pedestal sink there is a lot of untouched negative space that makes the room feel larger.

If you absolutely must have a vanity but are still interested in this idea, consider a floating vanity. It will take up more space than a pedestal sink but will achieve a similar effect.

5. Use Wall Niches

Having extra storage space is great for functionality, but how does it make the room feel bigger? Well first, it gets your consumable items off of the counters edges of the tub. This makes the space feel less cluttered. Second, a wall niche visually pushed the walls back, giving the space a greater sense of depth. Wall niches are a great alternative to something like open shelving because rather than jutting out into the space, they create even more space.

What You Need To Know About Bidets

What You Need To Know About Bidets

Bidets can seem like a very confusing and concerning bathroom fixture, especially to those that have never used one. However, if you take the time to learn about their benefits, you may find yourself understanding them a bit better or even wanting one!

What Is A Bidet?

A bidet is a fixture or system that uses a stream of water to help you get clean after using the bathroom. Originally, a bidet was a standalone fixture in the bathroom, usually porcelain and next to the toilet. However, in modern times, bidets can simply be toilet seat attachments (such as the one in the image above). These sorts of seats come with a extendable nozzle that gently sprays up at you to help you get clean.

Who Uses Bidets?

Traditionally, bidets have been a common bathroom fixture in Europe. Originating in France in the 1600s, the bidet is a plumbing concept as old as the American Colonies. And yet, America seems to think that these historic bathroom fixtures come from another planet. There are a few reasons why Americans generally don’t use bidets.

First, is simple lack of exposure. Only about 12% of Americans say that they even have access to a bidet, let alone have used one. This makes it harder for Americans to understand what they are all about. Second, most American bathrooms were simply not built for two toilet sized fixtures in them. That issue is being remedied with the adoption of bidet toilet seat attachments. Even still, Americans seem to be hesitant about letting something so seemingly foreign near their most sensitive areas.

Do You NEED A Bidet?

The short answer is no… You don’t NEED a bidet. Your life will not end if you don’t use water instead of paper to get clean. However, there are some major benefits to it. For instance, a bidet can be more hygienic than toilet paper because it eliminates the need to put your hands in an unclean area. Additionally, a bidet can be a fantastic option for people with mobility concerns. Many take their mobility for granted, but being able to push a button to get clean as opposed to reaching over for paper and reaching down to clean yourself can be a major boost to an individuals quality of life. Another benefit is a reduction in toilet paper usage; which is better for the environment, can save you money in the long run, and can lead to less clogged toilets.

While there are many upsides to using a bidet, it is not without its detractions. For instance, if you are not used to it, it may simply be unpleasant for you. It’s just like the old saying goes… “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. So if you are comfortable with your current bathroom routine, then a bidet may not be for you. Additionally, there will be upfront costs of installing a bidet or toilet seat attachment. It won’t break the bank, but once again, if you are currently comfortable with your bathroom routine, it may not make sense to take on an extra expense.

What To Consider Before Converting Your Bathtub To A Shower

What To Consider Before Converting Your Bathtub To A Shower

There are a lot of pros and cons to both showers and bathtubs. Deciding which is right for you can be a real challenge. Let us help you decide with this list of things to consider before converting your bathtub to a shower.

1. Do you have at least one bathtub in your house?

This is an important question for multiple reasons. First, having a tub can be super helpful for bathing children and pets. Additionally, having a place to take a bath every so often is a nice luxury to have. Second, having at least one bath in your home is good for the resale value. When considering future buyers, it is best to have a house that can tackle any task.

On the opposite side of that argument, a shower can also provide a lot of benefits. An updated standing shower will certainly also have its resale value benefits as opposed to an old tub. Furthermore, a shower can be the best option for people with mobility concerns. Having minimal curbing to step over means less risk of slipping and falling in the most slippery area of your home.

2. Will this shower fit in the footprint of the old bathtub?

Making sure that your new shower fits in the footprint of the old bathtub can be key to making the conversion fit your needs. If your dream is a walk in shower but you have a small bathtub currently, it may make the walk in shower much more difficult and costly. In general a barrier free shower needs at least a 4’x4′ area to convert properly and a walk in shower needs at least a 4’x6′ area. These measurements ensure that water stays where it is supposed to for your new shower.

A final note here is that even if your current bathtub doesn’t fit those space requirements, that doesn’t mean that the conversion would be impossible. However, it does mean that it will be significantly more costly and will eat into the space of the rest of your bathroom.

For more info, check out this article about questions to ask yourself before remodeling your shower.

3. What kind of shower system do you want?

Knowing what kind of shower system you want before you make the decision to convert your bathtub to a standing shower is key. Our biggest concern are body sprays. These are the water jets that con directly from the wall and spray at you while the main head comes from above. This can be a very luxurious option but be warned that not all homes are plumbed to handle that amount of water. If your home is not plumbed for this, the water pressure in your new shower will be extremely low.

4. Do you foresee plumbing changes?

Plumbing changes can come is all forms. Do you want to shower head to come from a different wall? Is the footprint of your new shower different from your bathtub? Are you going to have to raise the valve from its current position? Will this new shower necessitate the movement of other plumbing like the toilet? plumbing changes can quickly increase the cost of a bathtub to shower conversion, so knowing the full story before committing to the change is crucial to a successful project.

5. Do you have a qualified installer for this job?

Especially when dealing with water based projects in your home, one of the most common mistakes is not knowing what you are doing when it is already too late. That means having an installer that you can trust. Problems like drainage issues and improperly installed waterproofing can lead to terminal water damage and put you in a far worse situation than before you started the project. When taking on any remodeling project, not just bathtub to shower conversions, your biggest concern should be ensuring that the final product will meet your needs and last you a long time.

Common Bathroom Remodeling Mistakes

Common Bathroom Remodeling Mistakes

When remodeling your bathroom, there is a lot to manage. A lapse in judgement in one area can be a nuisance at best and can make your bathroom unusable at worst. Use this list of common bathroom remodeling mistakes to help you prepare for your upcoming remodel.

1. Going Over Budget

One of the most common mistakes with any remodel is improperly planning and then going over your budget. Creating a detailed budget before you even think about purchasing materials or booking contractors is key to a successful remodel.

The best way to create a budget is to research exactly what you will need. This includes knowing what factors affect costs the most in a bathroom remodel. Everything from tools to materials to labor costs should be included. When doing the research, be sure to find brands that fir within your price range. Brands tend to fit within a price spectrum, so understanding which brands will be available to you is key to staying within budget.

A final tip is to add about 20% of the budget on top as a buffer. With any remodel, unforeseen circumstances will arise, so being prepared for them is crucial to a successful remodel.

2. Not Adding Enough Storage

Storage is one of the most crucial components of a bathroom remodel. What good is a 10′ x 6′ shower if you don’t have space to keep your bathroom supplies? obviously that is an extreme example but the point stands.

Planning for more storage than you currently need is not only key to being happy directly after your remodel, but for years to come. There are tons of cabinet storage solutions to choose from. From tall linen cabinets to drawers with plugs in the back to store your blow dryer, there is a storage solution that is right for you.

3. Overlooking Proper Drainage

Drainage issues are one of the biggest problems facing bathrooms. If your shower isn’t draining properly, you risk a slipping hazard at best and severe water damage at worst. The way to avoid this is to make sure that when your shower floor is installed, there is a gradual slope towards the drain.

4. Forgetting About Lighting

Lighting is one of the most common ways that a prospective remodeler can ruin their new space. The bathroom is the most common space for people to get ready, so having proper lighting (and a large mirror) is key to creating a functional space.

Along with this, having natural light in your bathroom is a fantastic way to make your space look larger, and more luxurious.

The nook lighting in this picture is the a LED lighting strip that can change color color and brightness with a remote control.

All in all, lighting is one of the most important facets to both form and function in any bathroom remodel.

5. Neglecting Ventilation

Bathroom ventilation is a seemingly small detail that can make all the difference in the final product. Without proper ventilation, humidity will build up in your bathroom, possibly causing mold, mildew, and water damage over time. We suggest looking at humidity sensing bath fans. Nowadays, they are whisper quiet and can come with all sorts of features such as lighting and even Bluetooth speakers.

6. Overestimating Your DIY Skills

Often times, a botched DIY job can leave a bathroom in worse shape than it was originally in. When you fully complete a job yourself, only to realize that it needs to be redone, it will cost you a lot of time and money. The best way to avoid this is to only take on the parts of your project that you are 100% sure that you can complete to high quality standards.

Our recommendation is to call a trained professional for any aspect of your project that you don’t feel comfortable taking on. That is where we can help! Bath Planet can help you create a stylish and affordable space that will last you for years!

6 Tips For Creating A Mobility Friendly Bathroom

When remodeling your bathroom, it is important to make sure that it meets all of your needs. For many people, that means taking mobility concerns into account. Knowing what steps to take to make your space perfect for you is key. So check out our list of tips for creating a mobility friendly bathroom!

1. Adding Grab Bars

When people think of grab bars, they often think of white plastic bars hanging from the wall. These are unsightly and can make you feel like you are in a hospital. Luckily, that style is a thing of the past. Grab bars can come in all shapes sizes and finishes. For example, you could have bars in your shower that match the finish of your shower system, or you could install a grab bar/toilet paper holder that matches the finishes of your bathroom. Long story short, nowadays, mobility friendly designs can look just as stunning as any other.

To see a good example of grab bars, check out this recently completed project!

2. Make Your Shower Barrier Free

A barrier free shower can be a great way to keep mobility concerns minimal while adding a lot of style to your bathroom. Barrier free showers do not have a curb when you walk into them, meaning that dont risk tripping when getting into the shower and you could even roll in with a wheelchair.

3. Install A Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment

This is the display bidet toilet seat attachment in our showroom!

Bidet toilet seat attachments can be a foreign concept to many Americans, but they can be a great way to stay clean when you have mobility concerns. Instead of bending over and reaching down, you can just hit a button to stay clean. While you would still have to dry yourself afterwards, these can be a helpful tool.

4. Install A Shower Chair

A shower chair pairs with grab bars like peanut butter pairs with jelly. Having a place to sit while you shower is a great way to reduce any mobility concerns. Especially in a wet area like a shower, mkaing sure you can stay stable is key. These chairs can come in all sorts of finishes and can even be mounted to your wall.

5. Widening Your Doorways

Many people don’t consider that people with mobility concerns may have aides such as walkers, crutches, or wheelchairs, that can have a hard time fitting through standard doorways. For maximum comfort, it is definitely worth considering widening the doorway to your bathroom to make sure any aides you may need can enter and exit the room easily.

6. Use Non-Slip Flooring and Mats

Non-slip flooring and mats are vital to staying safe in your bathroom. Safety is the primary concern for people with mobility issues, so taking precautions to reduce the risk of slipping should be a top priority.

Bathroom Inspiration: Shower Design

Bathroom Inspiration: Shower Design

Bathrooms must be practical, but they can also be beautiful. When it comes to designing your bathroom, you should pay particular attention to the shower. After all, it’s often the focal point of the room. A well-designed shower can make or break a bathroom design but finding inspiration can be difficult. Well, not anymore!

We’ve compiled a quick list of bathroom shower design ideas to kick your imagination into gear.

Rain showers

What started as a trend has proven to have staying power. Rain showers are a great way to add a natural, modern finish to your bathroom. Designed to provide consistent, gentle water pressure, they’re as functional as they are stylish.

Recessed niches

Gone are the days of unattractive shower caddies. For your next bathroom renovation, consider your use of the space and include a few handy recessed niches to store all your shower accessories.

Pocket gardens

Greenery is welcome in every room but adding a few moisture-loving plants to your bathroom is particularly picturesque. Including some plants in your shower is a great way to add a pop of nature to an otherwise sterile environment.

Benches

Sitting on the shower floor is a thing of the past. For your next bathroom renovation, consider including space for an attractive bench in your shower. I think natural wood or popping tile are both great options.

bathtub to shower conversion

Decorative glass

Shower glass doesn’t have to be plain. For your next project do away with the minimalism and instead add a pop of character with your shower glass. Whether stained or patterned, turning your shower glass into a feature is a great way to add a personal touch to your bathroom.

bathtub to shower conversion

Shower tubs

Combination shower/tubs needn’t be relegated to cozy bathrooms. With the right design, a shower tub can be a great bathroom feature piece. Not only that, they’re incredibly practical. Can’t decide between a shower or a soak? Why not both!

bathtub to shower conversion

Curbless shower

There’s no better way to open up a bathroom than with a curbless shower. Gone are the days of shower curtains or curbs, consider instead designing your bathroom open-plan. Just remember to be smart about your design – no one likes a soaked bathroom.

Handheld showerheads

Practicality is king when it comes to handheld showerheads but that doesn’t mean you have to neglect the style. Modern handheld showerheads can be a great statement piece, keeping your bathroom attractive as well as practical.

Pebble flooring

We think tiles have had their time in the spotlight. When it comes time to choose your shower flooring consider stepping outside the box with pebble flooring. It not only adds a pop of accent to your shower, but it’s also a great non-slip solution.

Natural lighting

Showers are private affairs, but mother nature is always welcome. When designing your shower, consider including a window or skylight to let in some natural light. It will brighten up the space and give your shower a modern, airy feel.

Retro tiling

Minimalism is all well and good but sometimes we just want to take a walk back in time. Your shower is a great space to do just that. Adding some retro tiling to the space is a great way to add a pop of interest to an otherwise sterile space.

A pop of marble

All white showers can easily cross the line from minimalist to sterile. When designing your shower, consider breaking up the white with a pop of marble. Soft greys or neutral tones will do wonders for your shower.

Shower with a view

Live in a particularly picturesque area? Why not take advantage of the fact. Open-air showers require a little finesse to maintain privacy but done right, a shower with a view can be a great design and experience.

Exposed stone

Tiles are great but for an all-natural look and feel it doesn’t get better than exposed stone. When designing your shower consider using natural rock and stone rather than traditional tile. It’ll give the space a rustic look and ensure your bathroom is Instagram-worthy.

Your shower ought to be as attractive as it is practical. With these shower design ideas, you should be well on your way to designing a beautiful bathroom.

A Guide to Shower Wall Panels

A Guide to Shower Wall Panels

Make a statement with your bathroom remodel by choosing the right shower wall panel for your style and needs. With so many options on the market today, it can be overwhelming to choose the right one for you.

A bath remodel is not something you decide on overnight – it requires attention and time. Save yourself time and money by doing some research before hiring a contractor to help you out.

Below are five questions to ask yourself before choosing a shower wall panel.

What is your budget?

Every remodel starts with deciding how much you are willing to spend. The shower wall panels are not the only cost that will be incurred. There are a few other elements to consider: labor, design mock-ups, material, and time. While you may immediately lean towards fancier materials and intricate designs, ask yourself if this is the best option with your budget.

Luckily, your dream home does not necessarily have to be expensive. Many sturdy, cost-efficient materials can be tailored to your needs and desired budget.

Do take note, though, cutting costs during a remodel can cause costly repairs down the line, so be sure to choose wisely!

How much do you want to spend on materials?

There is a wide range of materials for shower wall panels on the market, ranging from cheap to expensive. Of course, you’ll want to find something within your budget that fits your wants and needs.

The more affordable options include fiberglass reinforced panels, fiberglass, and acrylic.

Mid-tier options include laminate, PVC composite, cultured granite, or marble wall panels. These materials provide a nice balance between function and quality.

The more luxurious options include optical high-gloss acrylic and granite panels.

As mentioned before, you don’t have to fork out exorbitant costs to get your dream shower. For instance, acrylic wall panels are fully customizable and built-to-order, so you’ll be able to achieve the design you want at a fraction of the cost.

How much time do you have?

All home makeovers take time. Whether you are working on a small DIY home project or getting someone else to do it, you have to consider the hours it takes to plan and complete your ideal home. What’s more – the manufacturing and delivery of materials will also take time.

Since shower walls are not large fixtures that require extensive construction, these projects can typically be completed within a day. Materials like laminate wall panels are quick to install, just like laminate flooring. These panels are sturdy and easy to handle, usually by one person, and click right in. Other materials, like acrylic, while not a one-man job, are also quickly built and can be put in your home within a day.

Does it fit into your home’s aesthetic?

Interior design is a crucial part of a home remodel; you don’t want to focus on function alone and end up with something you don’t enjoy looking at. The preference for aesthetics differs by individual, so this is something you have to communicate with your contractor to create the bathroom you imagine.

From contemporary to traditional, boho to minimalist, many different types of interior design aesthetics can be elevated with a shower wall panel. Traditional bathrooms usually follow cultured marble or granite, which were highly popular in the 1960s to 1980s.

If you want to go for a more modern look, acrylic offers a sleek and stylish option. What’s great about acrylic walls is that they can be tailored by design, pattern, size, and style. Some of these walls are even able to imitate stone or tile finishes without compromising on affordability and durability.

Is this material the best option for its environment?

You have to be extra careful when selecting a material for a place with steam, humidity, and water. Going purely for design can end up costing more in the long run in terms of maintenance and replacements.

Bathroom maintenance is no easy feat. It may even be what sparked the idea for your bathroom remodel. You don’t want to spend money and effort on your shower update to end up with yellowish hues, dark tints, or moldy walls again.
Depending on the material you pick, there will be steps to make to keep it clean. For instance, tile shower owners often face built-up tile grout that needs a good load of scrubbing to get out.

You will want to pick durable materials for the longevity of your bathroom. Granite can be sealed to make it resistant to dirt and staining. Acrylic is also a perfect solution as its one of the most low-maintenance materials for shower wall panels. Its made of a waterproof coating, making it easy to wipe down. Its non-porous qualities also prevent water damage and mold growth.

Whether you are imagining the shower in your new living space or revamping your current home, choosing the right wall panel requires care and attention. Bath Planet Tallahassee will take your home project to the next level with our tailored approach to bath remodeling. Contact us about a free consultation today!

Choosing a Glass Shower Enclosure

Choosing a Glass Shower Enclosure

When choosing a glass shower enclosure, there are many details to consider before making a decision. Deciding things like how you want your glass shower door to open, and the pattern and style of your shower glass can become overwhelming and leave you wondering if you’re making the right decisions.

Read on to find out how to choose a glass shower enclosure you’re happy with so you can take some of the pressure off yourself.

Framed, Semi-Framed, or Frameless

The first big decision you will make is whether you want a framed, semi-framed, or frameless glass enclosure. Let’s jump in and find out what each offers.

Framed Shower Enclosure

As the name suggests, a framed shower enclosure features a metal frame that surrounds the corners of the four glass panels. It also secures the shower structure to the bathroom wall. Since the frame makes a solid structure, you have the option to use thinner glass, which would make the entire project less expensive. Frames now come in a variety of finishes and styles and are thinner than they used to be.

Semi-Framed Shower Enclosure

This type of enclosure is like a hybrid between framed and frameless. It has a combination of some framed panels and some frameless, for example, a framed door leaving the rest of the panels frameless. Or you could frame the whole top and bottom, leaving all the space inside frameless. Some consider this type of shower enclosure more aesthetically pleasing because the inner walls remain unobstructed from view.

Frameless Shower Enclosure

Frameless shower enclosures are very sleek and modern. Your line of sight remains unobstructed and pieces of hardware hold the glass panels together, which becomes an aesthetic element of the shower. Since there is no frame, the glass door has to take on more responsibility for the structure, which means you would need to use a thicker, heavier glass.

Shower Glass Thickness

Your decision between a framed, semi-framed, and frameless shower enclosure narrows down your options for glass thickness. Experts say that for frameless shower doors, you have two options for thickness: ⅜” or ½”.

Decide if cost or appearance is more important to you. The ⅜” glass door is thinner and less expensive but the ½” glass may be more aesthetically pleasing. Your shower door will have to benefit the structure and be consistent with the rest of the glass panels. So go with thin if you want to save a bit of money but if it’s more important that it’s visually appealing, go with the thicker option.

Type of Door

When choosing how you want your glass shower door to open, your options are sliding door or hinged. Here are some pros and cons of each:

Sliding Door

Pros:

    • Sleek appearance
    • Works well in small spaces
    • Hang towels on the door handle

Cons:

    • Difficult to clean tracks
    • Metal tracks may rust
    • The door doesn’t open very wide

Hinged Door

Pros:

    • Easy to clean
    • Minimalist appearance
    • Door opens wide

Cons:

    • Not great for small spaces
    • May leak water when opened

Style and Pattern

There are different styles of glass you can choose for your shower enclosure. You can choose aesthetic components like color, frost, and pattern. Here are some examples:

    • Clear
    • Frosted or opaque – you can see through it but it adds a bit of opacity
    • Low-iron – removes the usual green tint and makes the glass super clear
    • Tinted – tinted glass with colors like blue, gray, and bronze
    • Rain – looks like a window covered in rain, provides a bit of privacy, and hides fingerprints and imperfections
    • Patterned – a pattern is etched into the glass and there are many to choose from.
    • Hammered – creates a unique, somewhat opaque appearance

These are the most important factors you have to consider before building a shower enclosure. Making your decisions in this order can make the entire experience much easier. When the decision-making part is over, you get to enjoy the beautiful and relaxing glass shower enclosure that you designed.

Should I Convert My Bathtub into a Shower?

Should I Convert My Bathtub into a Shower?

When it comes time for a bathroom update, you may consider converting your bathtub into a shower. A tub to shower conversion is a popular remodeling project and an easy way to update an outdated bathroom. You can convert a small tub into a large shower, all while adding style and functionality.

If you are thinking about a bath remodel, be sure to consider these factors before making a decision that will affect your everyday life.

Here are five things to consider before converting your bathtub into a shower.

1. Have at Least One Bathtub in the Home

Those who work in real estate say you should have at least one bathtub in your house. If you decide to sell your home one day, having a bathtub is a selling point you might not want to give up. Of course, if you have no intention of selling your house, do whatever you would like to do to make you feel more at home.

Update Your Shower

A standing shower with accessories also has its benefits when it comes to selling. It can become increasingly difficult to get in and out of the bathtub safely as we get older. A shower equipped with a seat and gripping bars is the perfect solution for those with such difficulties. Not only that, but you can easily customize other accessories for your shower that cater to your lifestyle.

2. Drains Are Different Sizes

Tubs and showers will differ in their drain sizes. Before you start on your bathroom remodel, make sure you know about the changes that will need to be made, like changing the type and position of the drain you already have.

3. Waterproofing

Waterproofing is a pretty crucial factor when talking about showers. You do not want to see water on the floor, any cracks in your tile, or mildew in each crevice. So it is best to leave a task like that to the professionals. When done right, your bathroom will sparkle long after installation.

4. The Valve

This sounds like a minor issue, but it is something to make a note of. Your shower valve will need to be raised since a tub valve is lower down. Correct valve placement is important, as it helps even out the water pressure and temperature. You probably would not welcome those kinds of surprises while relaxing in the shower.

Tiled Shower

5. A Shower Curtain

A typical shower curtain may not fit in with your new shower. You may be better off installing a glass enclosure. Glass enclosures come in different styles and patterns, various levels of frost, and a door to fit your space and preferences.

How To Get It Done Right

When all things are considered and you’ve decided to go with a tub to shower conversion, here are some benefits of doing your shower upgrade with Bath Planet Tallahassee.

On average, refinishing a shower or bathtub costs $478, with a range of $334 and $628. When you compare this to the $10,000 price tag that comes with remodeling, refinishing is a cost-effective option.

– Takes Less Time
A complete shower renovation can take weeks. However, refinishing is usually completed in less than three days.

– You Can DIY It
Depending on your handy skills, refinishing is a project you can complete on your own. There are a few online instructional guides that will help you through the process.

Cons
– Can Become Worn Over Time

A refinished shower will start to show signs of wear and tear after 5 to 10 years — depending on how often you use your bathroom.

– You Need to Leave Your Home

The chemicals and substances involved in refinishing can be dangerous. So, everyone in your home will have to leave the home for a couple hours to let it ventilate.

– Shower Must Be in Good Repair
If your shower is in a state of severe disrepair, then refinishing won’t help restore it. Refinishing offers cosmetic repairs only. Therefore, you can’t change shower fixtures.

– Colors and options are limited.

Your tile pattern remains the same and there are only a few colro options to choose from.

Option 2: Fiberglass Panels

There’s nothing worse than the sight of grime. Ceramic tile grout is known to collect scum and grime.

Fiberglass wall panels are waterproof and are strong enough to be fitted inside the shower without grout.

Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of fiberglass shower panels:

Pros
Quick and Easy to Install
For fiberglass panel installation, all you need are the panels, adhesive, and some simple woodworking equipment. Simple, right?

Cost-Effective
When you purchase them in a kit, shower wall panels are cheaper than tiles. Of course, the price depends on the type of panels you get. If you want luxury shower panels, expect to shell out more money.

Leak-Resistant
Since shower wall panels are non-porous, they’re resistant to leaks, mold, and mildew.

Cons
Limited Choices Compared to Tiles
Your options are limited when it comes to fiberglass panels. With tile, you can choose from a wider range of sizes, textures, and designs.

One Damaged Board Requires Complete
If one area of the wall gets damaged, you will have to replace the entire thing. Unlike tile, you can just replace the broken tile.

Option 3: Acrylic Panels

An acrylic bath system that is custom-made using your existing shower or bath measurements.

It’s an affordable and hassle-free option compared to the other methods on this list. Homeowners praise how fast and easy the process is.

Bath Planet’s products are durable. Unlike tile and fiberglass fibers, the acrylic doesn’t chip or damage easily.

With the Bath Planet system, you have more designs to choose from. It comes in a huge variety of colors, textures, and styles.

Here are few more benefits to getting a Bath Planet System:

Limited Lifetime Warranty
If something goes wrong with your Bath Planet products, the company will replace, repair, or refund it. This keeps your shower looking brand new with no cost to you.

Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval
When Good Housekeeping backs a product, you know it’s the real deal. The publication praised it for changing the bathroom remodeling industry for the better.

A Guide to Shower Wall Panels

Tiled Shower Vs The Bath Planet System

Tiled Shower Vs Bath Planet

This shower from Bath Planet has the look of tile but without the expense and difficult maintenance.

Among the most used bathroom appliances is the shower. From bathing to shaving, all these uses take a toll on the durability and longevity of your shower systems.

Tiled shower walls, although made durable, are not immune to wear and tear brought about by unclean bodies and clothes in contact with them.

Bathroom remodeling is a great way to add value to your house especially in the case of resale, not to mention the myriad of personal benefits it confers on the homeowner. This process is simple and painless if you know what you should look for in bathroom renovation contractors.

All bathroom shower tile starts to see wear and tear after a period of time. There are numerous ways to remodel a bathroom, all of which depend on various factors such as type of shower system, design of remodeling, among others to employ.

Here is a list of the best ways to methods you can use to remodel your bathroom;

  • Tiled Shower Installation
  • Painting
  • Installing Bath Planet System

The most common ways used by most homeowners today is a tiled shower installation or the Bath Planet system.

Tiled Shower Vs Bath Planet Acrylic Panels

Take a look at the two images below. One of them is a tiled shower with subway tiles. The other is a Bath Planet shower with seamless acrylic panels made to look like subway tile. Can you tell which is which?

Tiled Shower Installation Costs vs Bath Planet

Tile installation requires a significant amount of time, labor, and resources. Here is an all-inclusive outline of the total cost of tile installation;

Cost of Labor
Installing a tile size of approximately 12×12 to 24×24 up to 36” long on a clean floor with no requirement of demo or floor prep costs $7-$9 per square foot.

Cost of Tile
Tile can range in cost from $3 a square foot to $15 a square foot or more. On average I woudl budget $7 a square foot for your shower wall tile and $15 a square foot for your shower floor tile and accent tile.

It is important to choose a tile that is not only in your budget range but also one that doesn’t require much labor, as this would jack up the installation costs.

You should also consider;
Demo existing shower tile at $5 per sq ft
Floor leveler at $2 per sq ft
Waterproofing the shower at $4 per sq ft inclusive of both material and labor

Tile vs Bath Planet

In total a tiled shower can cost $15,000 to $20,000 when done by a professional contractor. It takes about two weeks to complete.

A Bath Planet Shower costs between $7500 and $10,000 and can be completed in just two days.

Clean Bathroom, Clean Body, Clean Mind

Clean Bathroom, Clean Body, Clean Mind

Can you truly be clean if your bathroom isn’t clean? Consider all the mold, germs, and fungi that lives on in your bathroom. Sure, I can scrub down my bathroom, but regular cleaning isn’t going to destroy all the nastiness that lives in my bathroom. It’s gross when you think about it.

Clean Bathroom with Ellumi

But then I found Ellumi, the combination of two companies: Evolution Lighting and Vital Vio. Basically, it’s combining lighting technology and bacteria-killing technology. Hence: a light that kills bacteria. I know, it sounds awesome. Ellumi safely kills up to 99$ of bacteria. That’s like slathering your entire bathroom with hand sanitizer…but, you know, without the slippery chemicals. It’s safe. It’s clean. It’s fantastic.

But how does it work?

University researchers have shown that certain wavelengths of visible light are deadly to bacteria, but safe for humans and pets. These wavelengths are used by Ellumi tickles certain bacteria molecules through a process called photo-activation. It causes cell damage and death. Fun, and scientific.

Double Settings, Double Location

Worried about having that light on all the time? Not a problem, because there’s a standard light setting. Good, I can use it as a regular light. But when I want to get to bacteria-killing mode, I can switch it to a cool, violet light that gets rid of all the harmful bacteria invading my bathroom. Plus, it looks really cool. Imagine taking a shower while that light is shining.

Okay, let’s real. The bathroom isn’t the only place where bacteria lurks. Okay, it’s all around your home. But the more worrying places are the bathroom…and the kitchen. Whether you like it or not, there’s staph, salmonella and e. Coli just living in your kitchen. Gross, considering you prepare and cook meals in there. Luckily, Ellumi is also offered as an under-cabinet lighting for your kitchen as well.

Closing Thoughts

I recommend Ellumi for anyone, not just germaphobes.

4 Place to Find Bathroom Inspiration

Instagram

Instagram is known for its eye-catching images that captivate its audience’s imaginations. This notion extends to bathrooms.

You’ll find some aesthetic brilliance all over the platform, but you’ll want to streamline your research to the best accounts around.

Here is a list of top instagram accounts to follow for some bathroom inspiration:

Pinterest

While Instagram might be more popular than Pinterest on the whole, when it comes to eye-catching visuals and designs, it might be the better of the two.

Better yet, the platform is chockful of inspirational bathroom remodels that can shape a beautiful design and layout.

With that said, here are 900 bathroom remodeling ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

HGTV.com

One source of inspiration when remodeling your bathroom can be the input of experts.

HGTV is a Home Improvement mogul that specializes in these types of projects. And their published bathroom remodeling content is seemingly endless.

Unlike Instagram or Pinterest, HGTV (and other home improvement publications) will give you a more practical viewpoint.

Avoid getting too caught up in HGTV. Those programs are designed for entertainment and have built in drama that does not always represent reality.

Nature

Whether a walk through the forest, a day at the beach, or a hike across a mountain trail, creative inspiration is plentiful.

Adding a touch of nature to your remodeled bathroom will put you in touch with the outdoors and help you feel grounded.

Check out these natural bathroom designs–they’ll make you feel like mother nature herself is caressing you.

Update Your Shower With Bath Planet

Update Your Shower With Bath Planet

If your shower is more than 10 years old, chances are it is in need of an update. The way showers were built in older homes leaves them prone to mold growth. Fortunately, modern shower systems are much improved.

Update Your Shower with Subway Tile Shower Panel with Black Grout

Believe it or not, the shower pictured above is done with Bath Planets Acrylic Subway Tile Panels. The seamless panels are embossed with a subway tile pattern and use our Reveal Grout Lines in black. The reveal grout has a matte texture that gives it a very realistic look but is still seamless and easy to clean.

3 Options To Update Your Shower

There are three options when it comes to updating your shower: A tiled shower, a fiberglass shower, or an acrylic shower system, like the ones we use at Bath Planet.

Tiled Showers

Tiled showers are very popular and there are a lot of color and style options to choose from. Choosing a tile to update your shower is also the more expensive option.

A tiled shower update will cost between $15,000 and $18,000 for a quality install and will take about two weeks to complete. This includes removing the existing tile and backer, waterproofing the shower with a modern system such as Schluter Systems, and tiling the new shower. It also would include new shower fixtures.

Fiberglass Showers

Fiberglass showers have also been popular for some time. They are less expensive than a tiled shower but come in limited colors and styles.

There are few varieties of fiberglass showers from the very cheap and poorly made options available at the big box stores to higher quality options sold by companies like Best Bath

If you plan to update your shower using a fiberglass system expect the cost to range from $8000 to $12,000. Installation typically takes a few days.

There are a couple of downsides to fiberglass showers. The main one being that they can not be cut to fit or customized on-site. So they really only work with standard-sized showers.

Another downside is that color and style choices are limited, though that is slowly improving.

Acrylic Panels

High-quality acrylic panels are relatively new to the market. They have been around for 10 years or so but only recently have they gained popularity thanks to companies like Bath Planet bringing more color and style options to market.

An acrylic shower system is similar in cost to a fiberglass system, between $8000 and $10,000 depending on options and accessories but unlike a fiberglass system, it can be cut to fit and customized on-site.

Advantages of Bath Planet Acrylic Showers

  • Seamless Panels for 100% waterproofing
  • No grout -easy to clean
